Sports and Extra-curricular Activities

At Heaton Park we aim to enhance the curriculum beyond the normal school day. We provide a range of activities in sport and the arts either during the school day or at the beginning and end of the school day. We also provide opportunities for our children away from school on day trips and residential educational visits.

Our children have the opportunity to take part in a variety of after school clubs. Different activities take place throughout the year such as dance club, gymnastics and girls and boys football.

Our school enjoys success in a range of sporting and musical activities and regularly competes in a number of local and Bury wide competitions and events. We are very proud of holding the Active Mark Sports Award in recognition of the range of activities we offer. We have strong links with local high schools which further enhances opportunities for everyone.

Children also have the chance to learn to play a musical instrument through our partnership with Bury Music Service. All of the children in Years 3, 4 and 5 learn to play an instrument in school with Bury Music Service. If you would like your child to have additional private music lessons with Bury Music Service please contact them directly on 0161 796 9910 or email mail@burymusic.co.uk

Sport plays a crucial role in child development both physically and mentally. We offer a wide variety of sporting activities throughout school life here at Heaton Park Primary and children can attend clubs with the opportunity to represent school in the following:

  • Cross Country
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Boccia
  • Tag Rugby
  • Basketball

Children should be encouraged to join sporting clubs out of school hours. It is of high importance that children engage with physical activity as the benefits play a huge factor in their early development enhancing their health, confidence, resilience, whilst also preventing the risk of disease.

Over the years at Heaton Park we have had children represent the Borough at the Greater Manchester school games, former pupils become professional footballers and children represent at county level in swimming.

We have put together a list of local sporting contacts we hope you will find useful along with contacts for holiday clubs.
