Physical Education

At Heaton Park Primary School, PE is a very important part of our school curriculum. We give all children, irrespective of their academic or physical ability, the opportunity to develop their physical potential through a wide range of sports activities. This allows the children to progress their PE skills, knowledge and concepts throughout school, from EYFS up to KS2.

At Heaton Park, we are lucky enough to have a full-time school sports coach who teaches some of our PE lessons, some after school sports clubs, lunch time clubs and forest school! We take part in lots of school competitions around Bury, Prestwich and Whitefield which enables the children to develop a healthy appetite for competitive sports.

At Heaton Park, we are always encouraging our children to stay active, we try to do lots of outdoor learning through cross-curricular links with other subjects, such as our orienteering course, and the children gain extra skills e.g. team-building, through activities like forest school. The children at our school develop a huge passion and enjoyment for PE and sports.

Sport plays a crucial role in child development both physically and mentally. We offer a wide variety of sporting activities throughout school life here at Heaton Park Primary and children can attend clubs with the opportunity to represent school in the following:

  • Cross Country
  • Football
  • Netball
  • Swimming
  • Athletics
  • Boccia
  • Tag Rugby
  • Basketball

Over the years at Heaton Park we have had children represent the Borough at the Greater Manchester school games, former pupils become professional footballers and children represent at county level in swimming.

We have put together a list of local sporting contacts we hope you will find useful along with contacts for holiday clubs.
