At Heaton Park we have opportunities to take part in Forest School activities with Miss Cooper and Mr Knowles. Forest School takes place on Friday afternoons during our whole school Heaton Park University time and we aim to do as much outside learning as possible throughout the week. Forest school is about children building self esteem and independence through exploring and experiencing the natural environment. The programme is tailored to meet the needs of the individual within a group and is continuously developed as the children grow with confidence, skills and understanding.
Over the last two years we have developed and enhanced our outside learning area. We have planted over one hundred trees and we also have a shelter allowing us to learn outdoors whatever the weather. Full risk assessments are carried out for all activities.
Forest School helps to develop: confidence and self esteem; communication and social skills; greater understanding of the natural environment; team skills; the ability to recognise and manage risk and plenty more!
